 The Kailasanathar Temple at Srivaikuntam.

Swami Kailasanathar, Goddess Sivagami Ammal.

Does anyone have the courage to lock the Temple and entrust the keys to the Kaval Theivangal?

The saying goes:- “There is milk, fruits but there is no hunger and there is breeze near the bed but sleep will not come”. You will be wondering what the relationship is between this Cinema – song and Nava Kailayam. There is. This is the position of the lives of many people to-day.

Some feel that wealth, position and education are enough I life. But it is not correct. Above all, one must have peace of mind. Everything will be a waste without that.

There is no sea without waves. There is no life without problems. But how can you prosper if life itself becomes a problem. From ancient days to this day, we have achieved so many things with wealth, education and position. But the only way to achieve peace of mind and live with satisfaction is through piety. From Sadhus to an ordinary person, everybody goes to Temples to find peace of mind.

Lord Sani decides mental peace. The Sani Thisai blows like a breeze and also like a strong tempest (hale). If Sani blesses an ordinary person, he will become number one in life.

If Lord Sani gets angry even a V.I.P would lose his address. We are nowhere while Lord Rama Himself suffered (was caught) by Lord Sani.

Lord Sani who is known as Ashtama Sani and Ezharai Nattu Sani reigns for 19 years in each person’s life. Lord Sani is sixth in Nava Kailayam, third in middle Kailayam and eighth in Graha and reigns Lord Kailasanathar at Srivaikuntam. There are 2 types of Sani. One is Pongu Sani and another is Mangu Sani. Pongu Sani will bestow all prosperity in our family. Let us go to Srivaikuntam where Kailasanathar  (Lord Siva) reigns as Lord Sani. We will get peace of mind and happiness there. Srivaikuntam is 30 km from Thirunelvelion the Thirunelveli – Thiruchendur route.

In ancient days Srivaikuntam was known as Kailasapuram. Then it was called Vaikuntam because there is Lord Vaikundanathar in this temple. Vaiguthal means to reside.

Vaigum means place. So it was called ThiruVaiguntham, because Thirumal and Thirumagal live there. Later it was called as Srivaikuntam.

In ancient days this place was called Boologa Vaigundam and Boologa Kailasam. Sri Kumara Gurupara Swamigal who has born here had sung un Kailai Kalambam as Vaikuntha Kailai.

The Structure of the Temple.

As Lord Kailasanathar and the Goddess is Sivagami Ambal. Lord Kailasanathar adores as a deity originated from there itself. Lord vinayaka is seen on the southern side of the temple. This 63 Nayanmars adorn in the inside prahara and Dakshinamurthy in the middle and the Kanni Vinayakar in the south west. The Panchalinga from the western sie, Lord Subramanya with Valli – Deivanai from the North Western side shower their blessings. In the Northern Prahara Chandikeswarar, Saneeswarar, The Sayana room of Goddess Sivagami Ambal, Lord Chandra in the East, Adikara Nandhi, Lord Surya bless from here. In the front Mandapa of the temple Dwarabalagas are seen, next Lord Nataraja, vinayaka in the East, Nandhikeswarar in the opposite side are also seen. There is a Thirukalyana Mandapam inside the temple. Inside the roof are seen the facts about NavaKailasam, pictures and paintings drawn with Mooligai. There is a Mandapam on the way to the Temple Nandavanam (garden). On a pillar of this Mandapam the merits of Uromasa Munivar are carved. In the Northern side of the Temple, Lord Kasi Viswanathar and Goddess Visalakshi adorn. This temple is called as Muthalaswarar. There is a Vimana found on the top of the Sanctum of Lord Kailasanathar, Sivagami Ambal, Kasi Viswanathar and Visalakshi. The Budhanathar of this temple is considered as the guiding God of the people and as the guiding God of the temple and as Sastha.

During the Temple festival, the first offering is done to Budanatha Sastha. There are 2 guarding deities Agni Badra and Veerabadra in this temple. Modern architecture is found here. It is said that in those days, they used to lock this temple and without taking the keys to the house, they left it on the statue of Agni Badra and Veerabadra.

It is said that the kodi maram was adorned with the copper plates brought from the Bagavathi Amman Temple. There are many sculptures in the Santhana Sabapathy Mandapam. There are 8 Yazhi pillars a lion below the Yazhi and an elephant -  These are sculptures found there.there are round small stones inside the mouth of Yazhi.

The kumbabishekam was performed 50 years ago.there was no prper maintenance that. In 1990, the temple was again renovated and the Kumbabishekam was performed. The Pujas like Thiruvathirai, pradosham, Thirukalyana utsavam, Navarathri,Sashti, kathigai Thiruvizha,Margazhi, bhajan,Yearly Abishekam, Thaipusam and Brahmotsavam are performed. 6 pujas.

At noon, rice, kulambu and kootu are offered to the deity in the temple and then devotees are offered food. There are Maha Vilwa trees, viboothi – leaf trees, gooseberry trees in the temple – gardenwhich looks beautiful. There is proof that the Pandiya king gave lot of lands to the Kottai Pillaimar community living in the Sand – fort there. They were asked to contribute to the temple, a portion of the income rfom these lands.

Even to-day the Kottai Pillaimar community performs the Kattalai in the temple. The temple is maintained by the people of that place.

Lord Siva reigns as Lord Sani in Nava Kailayam. If one performs Parihara to Lord Sani, the marriage which is delayed, would take place. One would regain lost properties. Shall we go to Srivaikuntam Nava Kailasam which is famous like Thirunallar Saneeswara Bagwan.

Lakshmi as Prugu’s daughter:

Sage Prugu went to Devaloga and wanted to find out who was the most soft – natured and patient among the Mummoorthies(3 Gods). Lord Brahma was indifferent to Pragu Maharishi when He saw him. Pragu gotprovoked at the pride of Lord Brahma and said “Brahma, there will be no temple for you in the world and there will be no worshipping for you. Pragu cursed Brahma and went to Kailayam.

Lord Siva was happy with his consort Parvathi at that time.Lord Siva did not like the visit of Pragu at that time and so he insulted him. Pragu cursed Lord Sivathus “Parameswara, there would be no Image – worship for you in Boologa and you will be worshipped only as Linga. Then ha went to Srivaikuntam to visit Lord Paranthaman.

When Sage Pragu went to Srivaikundam, his anger towards Brahma and Lord Parameswara was still there. He was very angry to see Maha Vishnu conversing happily with Mahalakshmi. He was angry because Mahavishnu did not receive him with honor even though he knew about Pragu’s arrival. So he went near Mahavishnu and with his leg (gave a knock (hit) on Mahavishnu’s chest.

Mahavishnu who was knocked by Pragu lost control and fell on the ground. Then he managed to get up and caught hold of Mahavishnu.

Pragu asked “What are you doing Paranthama?” Mahavishnu replied ”Sage, I am massaging your legs to reduce your pain because you hit me with your leg.

Sage Pragu’s heart moved and he said with great sorrow, “It is not fair on the part of Lord Paranthama, who ia praised by the Universe, to massage my leg. This is a great wrong”. “I was angry due to other reasons and wrongly showed that anger on Paranthaman”, Pragu regretted.

But Goddess Mahalakshmi’s anger did not reduce. She was greatly provoked because Pragu hit her husband’s chest where she resides.

Mahalakshmi challenged to Lord Mahavishnu that she would take revenge on Pragu, even though he was prodoned by the Lord.

Pragu became calm and realized that it was not correct to test them. So he said “Mahalakshmi, Mother of the Universe. I am giving a way to remove the curse on you. You will be born as my daughter in the world and hit my chest and punish me because I hit your husband’s chest.

Accordingly Mahalakshmi was born in the world as Pragu’s daughter and satisfied her anger.

Mahalakshmi joined Mahavishnu after her life in the world. Later on she Blessed Pragu.
